Favorite campground: Durango North KOA

Located north of Durango off of Highway 550, this campground had so
much to offer that we were reluctant to leave it and go sightseeing in
Durango. The Animas River flows through the campground, giving the
campground an idyllic setting.

Besides the usual offering of tent sites, RV sites, and Kamping Kabins,
the campground also offers a wonderful dining experience with
indoor/outdoor seating.
The outdoor
setting is a beautiful redwood deck with colorful umbrellas, an abundance
of flowers, and enough hummingbirds to satisfy the most avid birdwatcher.
The food is excellent, inexpensive, and abundant. For the kids, the
campground offers outdoor movies and, of course, there is a swimming pool.
There was only one minor worry – the sign in the store that warned: Campers!
Bear Alert!
"A small bear has been getting in the trash bags during the night.
Please do not put trash out at night. Also, watch your ice chests."
